Each student enters the classroom with their own beliefs, ideas, and values. These unique stories are essential aspects of student life and create a classroom community where students can learn from one another. As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to foster a student-centered classroom environment and commit to assisting students with both their academic and personal growth. Encouraging students from all backgrounds to share their thoughts and ideas and make sure each student knows they are valued members of our community. In doing this, students become engaged, excited to learn, and willing to take risks; and this is where real learning can begin!
A part of my teaching practice includes be a reflective educator and utilizing educational research to inform my practice. Reflecting upon my practice and identifying strengths and weaknesses aids me in modifying my lesson plans to support my students better. With this in mind, it is essential to be open-minded about new approaches and styles to teaching, especially considering the transition to distance learning and blended learning. My goal as an educator is to commit to taking the time to be reflective and research so that I can provide my students with the best education possible.
